    Meet the Artist...

    About the Artist, Cameron Porter:

While I have only been actively creating wood sculpture within the last few years, I have been an artist all my life. I would draw a lot in my younger days, which led me into a twenty-year career in the animation industry. I worked on many notable projects, including The Simpsons TV series and movie. Alas, life took me in a different direction, so I went back to school for a fine art degree. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Studio Art from the University of South Carolina in 2016 in a mere two-and-a-half years. Since then, I have been focused on wood sculpture and online content creation for YouTube and Instagram.

    Artist's Statement:

Wood, in my opinion, is the most versatile and innately beautiful medium. It is flexible, yet strong. It can be easily carved, bent, cut and shaped with imagination as the only limit. Wood naturally can be vividly coloured, have dynamic texture or none at all. What some may consider imperfections in wood, I consider to be features, adding to the allure.

Living sustainably is important to me. Wood is a natural, non-toxic, biodegradable and renewable resource. I take inspiration from things in everyday life that I see around me. Trying new techniques and things I have not done before is an integral part of my process. I often upcycle reclaimed wood to explore different ways of creating visually appealing forms.

A little more about the Artist:

Cameron Porter was born and raised in Nova Scotia, Canada, and currently lives in Columbia, South Carolina. You can see how he makes pieces on his YouTube channel, Cammie's Garage. He is also very active on Instagram, @cammiesgarage.
