Chair caning is an artwork in itself. Do you have a piece that has needed restored for years? Learn how to weave a beautiful design with step by step instructions with a master in our chair caning workshop. This class is intended to guide participants in re-caning a chair seat using the seven- step process. This requires a chair with the seat woven through holes in the frame of the chair. Participants should plan to bring their own chair in need of re-caning, or a small stool may be available for purchase to use as a project. Classes will consist of background information and hands-on instruction to cane the seat. New steps will be covered each class for students to practice each technique. Participants may need to complete some work at home to be ready for the next session. By the end of class, participants will take home their chair with a newly redone seat. An eye for detail and plenty of patience will make the class a great learning experience. Reeds and tacks are included however, students will need to bring the chair they are going to restore, along with an ice cream bucket or dishpan, awl or ice pick, tape measure, small side nippers and a utility knife.
